The Medical Society of Prince Edward Island extends a warm welcome to Dr. Taylor Lamarche, MD, CCFP, who began his family medicine practice at the Alberton Health Centre in May 2022. In addition to his family medicine practice, you can find Taylor working in emergency medicine at Western Hospital.

Taylor is originally from Porcupine, Ontario and attended the Northern Ontario School of Medicine for medical school and Dalhousie University for residency training. He also recently practiced in Fredericton, New Brunswick, as a comprehensive family medicine locum physician and part-time emergency medicine physician before signing on to work in Prince Edward Island.

Taylor is interested in continuing to develop his emergency medicine skills as part of his family medicine scope of practice. He hopes that in addition to providing comprehensive family medicine care, he can help to ease the burden on emergency medicine and walk-in services in Western PEI. Building on his athletic and kinesiology background, much of which he credits to setting the stage for his career, Taylor also has special interests in exercise and sports medicine. He’s looking forward to supporting the local community with healthy active living initiatives, chronic disease prevention and management, and plans to get involved with local sporting events.

When choosing PEI as his new home to practice medicine, Taylor noted the opportunity to start a flexible practice that integrated his interests and offered a positive work-life balance. He also credited the recruitment team who made his experience seamless.

"The excellent recruitment team made the decision easy and without pressure. They highlighted the innovative changes PEI is making to value and support primary care, prioritizing a team-based approach to patient-centered care, which is important to me,” he said.

Of course, living and working close to family and friends was a major selling point. Taylor and his wife Katie, who was born and raised on the Island, are thrilled to be back in Prince Edward Island. It’s been more than a decade since Katie has lived on PEI, so they’re looking forward to this next chapter. They welcomed a new baby at the end of March, and they are excited to grow their family near their loved ones.

As an adventure seeker and outdoor enthusiast, Taylor is on the hunt for the Island’s best hiking trail—if you have a great suggestion, reach out to him!
