Meet Dr. Maggie McNally

Family Physician

Together with Health PEI and the Department of Health and Wellness, we’re pleased to announce the recruitment of Dr. Maggie McNally.

Dr. McNally is a family physician. She and her family recently moved to PEI from Moate, a town in County Westmeath, Ireland. She has a special interest in children's and women's health.

Though Dr. McNally began working with a full patient complement in Charlottetown on May 1, she took a few minutes to answer some questions so you could get to know her better.

Get to know Dr. Maggie McNally

What are three adjectives you would use to describe yourself?

Fun-loving, steady and friendly.

Tell us about your family

We are a family of four; three Irishmen and me! (Dr. McNally is originally from Hamilton, ON). My husband is an architectural scientist who specializes in organic low-input farming practices. Our boys are eight and five. We like eating good food and burning it off outside.

What were the top three factors that made you choose PEI as your new home to practice medicine?

  1. The egalitarian publicly funded health care;
  2. PEI is a province with a strong sense of community;
  3. The four-season climate and proximity to the water and outdoor pursuits.

What was the hardest part of making the decision to move to PEI?

Moving my family from our home in Ireland.

Do you have any sub-specialty or areas of interest/ focus within your practice?

I enjoy all areas of general practice. I have specialist diplomas in Child Health and Women's Health.

What impact are you hoping to have on your patients and PEI?

I am hoping to provide continuity of care for entire families and to, therefore, help the community live healthy, happy lives.

What is your proudest life accomplishment?

I just successfully finished quarantining with my family after moving across the Atlantic with only four suitcases. That is a huge accomplishment!

What is one “fun fact” about you?

My favorite movies growing up were Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure and The Princess Bride. I can quote from any of them without warning.

Do you have any questions for Islanders?

I look forward to hearing people’s opinions about the best places to see and the best things to do on the Island.
