Wellness and Leadership Grants Program

The Wellness and Leadership Grants Program is designed to provide physicians with access to small grants that will support initiatives to improve physician wellness and leadership goals. The program will allow physicians to hold events that facilitate connection with their colleagues; make improvements in workplace culture; and participate in leadership development and educational opportunities to support their overall engagement in the PEI healthcare system.

Who can participate?

Current MSPEI members. Applications must demonstrate the impact on PEI physicians (specifically ordinary, visiting, locum, resident, and student members) and be consistent with the program objectives.

Program Eligibility

Applications could include initiatives such as:

  • Leadership— Organizing, facilitating, or attending networking events, conferences, and meetings related to leadership development; participating in continuing education on topics such as leadership development, communication, or equity, diversity, and inclusion.
  • Wellness— Supports for developing and implementing innovative ideas related to improving physician wellness (e.g. engaging consultants or other service providers).
  • Building Collegiality and Workplace Culture Improvements— Organizing events and opportunities for physicians to connect outside the workplace (e.g. hosting a welcome dinner for a new physician in a region; funding a study group on workplace culture improvement; engaging consultants or other service providers to support team development or building inclusive workplaces, etc.).

Please note: Ineligible initiatives include workplace renovation requests and capital clinical equipment costs.

The current budget allows for an average of $2,000 to be granted per MSPEI member, and is based on surplus funding allocated to health, leadership, and engagement initiatives that have been delayed due to the pandemic and system leadership changes. As the number of physicians impacted per application increases, the maximum funds approved by MSPEI for the application shall increase with a target of $2,000 being spent per member. If requested funds exceed surplus funding, MSPEI will use its discretion to reallocate funding to increase award grants over the $2,000 target and/or the number of grants that are awarded.

The Process

Applications are accepted on a rolling basis. The first round of applications will be reviewed in February, with the successful applicants notified by Friday, February 25. The second round of applications will consider applications received in February, and the third round of applications will consider applications received in March.

If your application is approved, you must submit grant reports and requests for financial reimbursement, as part of the approved project, within three months of the project completion.
