DR. JANINE KARPAKIS

Family Medicine

DR. TAYLOR LAMARCHE

MD, CCFP PHYSICIAN

TLamarche-2

The Medical Society of Prince Edward Island extends a warm welcome to Dr. Janine Karpakis, who began her family medicine practice at the Parkdale Medical Centre in Charlottetown in September 2024.

Janine is originally from Cape Town, South Africa and attended medical school at the University of Stellenbosh in Western Cape, South Africa and residency training at the University of Pretoria in Pretoria, South Africa. Janine has been a physician for close to 30 years, having worked in South Africa and Canada, most recently in Edmonton and Lethbridge, Alberta.

As part of Janine’s practice, she also holds special interests in mental health and substance use disorders; adult and pediatric ADHD; women’s health; and gender affirming care.

Janine credits her decision to move to Prince Edward Island after visiting a friend in St. John’s, Newfoundland, where she fell in love with Atlantic Canada’s beauty and charm. After doing her own research, Janine and her family settled on Prince Edward Island. Despite a snowstorm visit to the Island in February, Janine and her family fell in love with the beauty of the province and its people. She and her family are excited to explore the Island and eagerly anticipate becoming part of the community as they settle into their new home.

The size of the Island was also a selling factor for Janine as she is enthusiastic about making a difference in the medical community through governance efforts and getting involved in various aspects of the healthcare system.

Janine is settling in on Prince Edward Island with her husband, two daughters, and the family dog and cat. Outside of work, Janine loves to immerse herself in arts and crafts, a hobby that is close to her heart.
