MEET DR. HARRISON CARMICHAEL

Emergency Department physician

A new Emergency Department physician is joining the PEI team! Together with Health PEI and the Department of Health and Wellness, we’re pleased to announce the recruitment of Dr. Harrison Carmichael.

Dr. Carmichael is originally from Charlottetown. He moved to Ontario to study medicine and worked in Ottawa as an Attending Emergency Physician. We’re thrilled that the Island lifestyle and career opportunity brought him back home.

Dr. Carmichael recently took a few minutes to answer some questions so you could get to know him better.

Tell us about yourself

Hometown: Charlottetown, PEI
Medical University: University of Toronto
Last place of practice and role: Ottawa ON as an Attending Emergency Physician.

Do you have any subspecialty or special areas of interest/ focus within your practice you would like Islanders to know about?

Pre- Hospital Medicine and Transport.
 

What were the top three factors that made you choose PEI as your new home to practice medicine?

Family, lifestyle, career opportunities.

What was the hardest part of making the decision to move to PEI?

Leaving the City of Ottawa - the environment that I trained in.

What impact are you hoping to have on your patients and PEI?

Providing high-quality acute care while pushing forward the specialties of Emergency Medicine and Pre-Hospital care on the Island.

What is your most proud life accomplishment?

The birth of my son, Theo.

What is one “fun fact” about you?

I am an avid sports fan and am extremely competitive anytime that I get a chance to play.

Tell us about your family and/or things that get you excited outside of work.

My wife Grace and I have been married for three years and we have a 5-month-old son named Theodore.
